Fantasy Football Week 6 Running Back Waiver Wire Claims: Jon Hilliman, Chase Edmonds, More

Five weeks of NFL play are officially in the books, which means bye weeks are in full swing. Gone are the days where you could just coast by on a strong draft. Now more than ever, you’ll need to search the waiver wire for all the best available running backs. Heading into Week 6, you should set your eyes on Jon Hilliman, Chase Edmonds, and Rashaad Penny.

Note that in order to make this list, the player had to be available in over 50% of fantasy leagues. If you’re in smaller leagues, there may be better players available. Make sure to check your waivers to see if there are any diamonds in the rough before submitting your claims.

Jon Hilliman, Chase Edmonds Highlight Fantasy Football Week 6 Running Back Waiver Wire Claims

Jon Hilliman

The New York Giants running backs simply cannot stay healthy. Not long after Saquon Barkley suffered a high-ankle sprain, backup running back Wayne Gallman went down with a concussion. With both players sidelined, Jon Hilliman earned the majority of the snaps and touches out of the backfield. He didn’t do much with the opportunity, recording just 20 yards on nine carries. Additionally, he’s facing off against a ridiculously talented defense in the New England Patriots. That said, he’s the only running back widely available in line for a guaranteed workload.

Note that Hilliman only carries value if Wayne Gallman and Saquon Barkley cannot suit up. The Giants play on Thursday, which means that Gallman and Barkley have less time to recover. Gallman suffered a concussion and is almost a guarantee to miss Thursday’s action. Barkley, meanwhile, might actually be ready to play on Thursday. If it looks like Barkley’s going to play, then keep Hilliman away from your lineup.

Chase Edmonds

David Johnson is not the lone back in Arizona, as Chase Edmonds is slowly but surely starting to eat into his workload. In Week 5, Edmonds recorded eight carries for 68 yards and a touchdown while splitting the load with Johnson. Johnson is still the lead guy, but Edmonds should have enough work to be fantasy-relevant in the right matchup.

Week 6 provides the aforementioned right matchup. The Cardinals face off against an atrocious Atlanta Falcons defense which just gave up 53 points to the Houston Texans. This wasn’t a one-week fluke, as the Falcons simply haven’t been able to stop the run or the pass. This game could be a shootout, and Edmonds should record double-digit touches. He’s far from a safe play, but he has flex-caliber upside if he can find the end zone.

Probably Owned, but Worth Checking – Rashaad Penny

In order to make this list, a player needs to be available in over 50% of fantasy football leagues. As of this posting, Rashaad Penny is available in 50.1% of fantasy leagues. Penny, of course, is Chris Carson’s primary backup in one of the most run-heavy offenses in football. He carries minor standalone value and would be a plug-and-play starter if Carson ever goes down to injury. If he’s available, make sure to pick him up.
